“It Only Takes A Minute” Highlights Woman’s Asperger And Take That Journey

If you like the boy band Take That and plays about Asperger’s, then you may be in luck. It may also be convenient to live near Northern Ireland.
It Only Takes a Minute chronicles one young woman’s life as a female with Asperger’s, set to the tune of music the character is fixated with, Take That.
Co-writer Anna Kyle puts on a one-woman show that is created from the character’s flashbacks of her life in the 1990s and how she dealt with feeling different in the neurotypical culture. Much of the character’s solace was from listening to the band a lot in her bedroom. Things get a little too out of hand when she starts taking the lyrics too literally.
The irony is that the lead singer of Take That, Robbie Williams, has spoken in the media about potentially having the diagnosis.
Williams has suggested he may be either autistic or Asperger, but can’t decide which end of the spectrum he may lie on.
In an interview with BBC Radio 2, he said:
“There’s something missing in me, I have big blind spots… I don’t know what spectrum I’m on – I’m on something.”
It Only Takes a Minute takes the stage through early November.
It is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland through National Lottery Funding. Gilly Campbell, Arts Development Officer for Drama and Dance, Arts Council of Northern Ireland said: “The Arts Council is proud to support another production by c21 Theatre Company. c21 has a fantastic reputation in providing a platform for challenging subjects which are often ignored in the public eye. This is an important piece of theatre and I would encourage you all to go and see it.”
