An young Asperger man has designed a set of characters for Skeezix, a brand of fidgeting toys.

Ryan Bryer responded to an ad looking for a local illustrator. While he figured he was “no way qualified enough” for the gig, he took a chance and ending up pleasing David Crorey, who’s been creating all sorts of gadgets and putting patents on them for years.

Bryer has been extremely interested in art and drawing since a very young age. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s by two different specialists. His advice to everyone:

“Don’t limit yourself you can still achieve great things. Don’t let the disability prevent you from doing what you want to do.”

What’s interesting about this story is we have an Asperger designing a toy that could potentially be used by tons of Aspergers. Why? Fidgeting devices are great for stimming!

For those that aren’t aware, the practice of stimming involves some sort of self-soothing activivity, often with the hands and other tools, that those on the spectrum may partake in. It’s very similar to the act of fidgeting. Some have even gone so far to say that fidgeting is for neurotypicals, stimming is for Aspergers.
